Additional Sources of Income
from Your Own Info-products

by Kamau Austin
Make More Money with Your Own Info-Products!
In regards to whatever products or services you provide,
in most cases you can develop an additional downloadable product that
you can sell on you web site, to bolster the income that you generate
online. Try to create downloadable info-products because you have no delivery
expenses, and the digital documents are available to an international
audience. For instance, if you are a local plumber or hairstylist most
of your customers will be local referrals. However, your web site is a
considerable expense that you will have to maintain. Recent figures reported
in Emarketer Daily indicate that twice as many people in the USA, use
the Internet to find local businesses than even - their local Yellow Pages!
These facts have caused a whole new business model by both the local yellow
pages and major search engines, to develop very advanced technology to
help searchers find businesses in their local areas. This point could
not be emphasized enough - local search is the Internet's "next
big thing"! I digress to make this point because many small local
businesses in the past have had a wait and see attitude, in regards to
having web sites. This is because they felt the Internet was really for
the global, or at least national focused business. Local businesses will
now have to become netpreneurs and searchpreneurs going forward, or risk
losing 50% of their potential business to their net-savvy and
search-savvy competitors.
The Local Imperative for Search
Your local business will have expenses to create your web
content and promote your web site, so it will be important for you to
generate additional income for your web site in various ways. One of the
most natural ways to do this is to offer a downloadable product to make
additional income and expand your business. For example I am a web designer,
web marketer and SEO. These are local businesses because entrepreneurs
want personal attention for they businesses. Believe me I have learned
this the hard way. Most of my business resides within a fifty (50) mile
radius from my home.
However, I wrote this book (which is also available in downloadable ebook
form) to make additional income, establish myself as an expert, and to
share my expertise with a global audience. Moreover, what's great about
the ebooks is that is doesn't cost me any additional income to produce,
distribute, warehouse, or sell my info-products. Sure there is competition
out there selling similar search engine marketing books, but my USP (unique
selling position) is that I show people how to make additional
income from their new Searchpreneur knowledge and S.E.E.M.E. business.
Create a Unique Sales Point and Give Added Value
You can make addition sources of revenue even from small niche markets.
Furthermore, I have introduced two new terms into the web marketing lexicon:
1. Searchpreneur©, - an entrepreneur that uses their specialized
knowledge of search engine applications and algorithms to launch and profit
from online traffic (please note this is different from a SEO or search
engine marketer that profits from optimizing other people's web sites);
and 2. S.E.E.M.E. - Search Engine Efficiently Maximized E-business.
The reason I point this out is to inspire you to think of your unique
expertise or experience as having added value to your products
and services in which to make more revenue from the boundless Internet
sales channel. Lastly in should be stated that your web site can become
a tireless sales person for your info-products, that unlike a real world
salesperson doesn't get sick or tired, works 24/7, and isn't afraid of
rejection! It doesn't get much better than this in Internet or business
promotion.
Leverage Your Local Expertise into Global Products
Let's return to our earlier allusion to the local plumber or hairstylist.
Sure their business will be local referrals, but don't you think people
globally will be interested in plumbing or hairstyle tips? Do you think
people outside of their local area would be interested in how to get into
the plumbing or hairstylist business? How about the possibility of a niche
market existing of people who want a checklist of things they should look
for before they hire a plumber or hairstylist? All of these questions
could probably be answered in the affirmative that info-products could
be created by the local Searchpreneur to add additional income to expand
their business.
Info-products come in different forms and formats! I can
just imagine that you may be thinking I don't have time to write an ebook
- book - or other form of info-product. I am too busy building my core
business. It took me over a year to create this book and ebook. Therefore,
I can understand anyone's anxiety or reluctance to create a book or ebook.
To create a book or ebook is my way of developing an info-product for
my marketing strategy.
Profit Faster with Multimedia Info-products
However, there are quicker ways to create downloadable
infoproducts. You can tape audio on your computer with an input or microphone
device to MP3 files (a compressed audio file). Then you could sell the
audio from a streaming server from your web site. The great thing with
audio products is that it doesn't have to be painstakingly edited for
grammar the way a book or ebook have to be within traditional channels.
You can speak into your computer or hold a teleclass and tape the class.
Then you can compress the audio file from a .wav file into an MP3 file
and upload it to you web host's server.
Next you set up a payment system and market the audio
tape on your web site and sell it as a downloadable product. Better yet
you can interview other experts in your field, if you don't feel you have
the expertise or want additional expertise, and sell the taped interviews
from your web site as audio info-products. Just remember that you should
sell your info-product on a customized sales page on your present site,
or create a mini-sales site that links from your site to sell your info-products.
Let's cover another option for info-products video.
Stream Media and Protect Your Bottomline
Video products can be another way you create info-products that isn't
as tedious as writing a book or ebook. You could rent out a conference
room from a virtual office in your local area or use a nice room in you
your living space and give a lecture or presentation and tape the session.
The video tape then can be sold from your site as an info-product that
you can shipped out burned to a CD or in most cases a DVD. A video as
a downloadable product is still a little cutting edge because of the Internet's
perennial problem with bandwidth. However, with the arrival of critical
mass usage of broadband technology (faster Internet access and download
speeds) soon you will be able to stream video info-products to customers
and clients in real time.
Let me quickly talk about the advantages of streaming info-products in
contrast to downloading products. If someone downloads your ebook to their
hard drive they can then make a copy of your ebook and sell it to others
on Ebay, or some other Internet sales channel. There are ways to prevent
this, but let me just illustrate the point. Plus if they download the
product to their hard drives, they have to wait until the whole product
is downloaded before they read or experience them. If you have an audio
or video product that is 5 MB and they are on a slow dial up connection
it is going to take forever for them to experience your info-product.
Help Your Customers Learn Faster with Streaming Technology
Streaming technology allows you the ability to send or "stream"
packets of digital information to your customer in real time from your
web host's servers. Real time streaming means multimedia software on your
computer like Real Player and Windows Media Player can play
the packets of digital audio or video directly into these players, without
your customers having to wait for a full download to the hard drives of
their computers. Since the digital packets of multimedia don't actually
exist on their hard drives, they can't take your info-products and copy
them to sell or distribute, on the Internet without your consent.
In addition to easier editing with audio and video products, and a shorter
development cycle with multimedia products there is another reason to
use multimedia products. Your customer's usually can retain more information
when the info-products you make available to them engage all of their
senses. In college I learned that it is easier for people to learn visually
and through hearing something than it is for them to learn with text.
This is because hearing and seeing things are the more natural ways we
process information. Writing is a discipline human civilization developed
over time to probably preserve information. Writing therefore isn't as
much of an organic learning medium for most people as video and audio
multimedia. James
Maduk, a pioneer in the usage of "whiteboard" video
technology to do online training makes the point that people only retain
about 7% of what they read but retain about 35% of what they see and hear.
Recruit Affiliates to Help You Build a Sales Team
Maduk brilliantly uses whiteboard technology to train people in Internet
business because it has a much lower bandwidth usage than traditional
video online and incorporates audio. To see Maduk's whiteboard video technology

that you can actually have other web sites become your own virtual sales
force by recruiting affiliates or associate sites to sell your digital
assets. Imagine if you had an ebook that sold for $27. Envision that you
also trained and recruited 35 affiliate sites to sell your infoproducts.
Let's visualize 4 out of the 35 affiliates you recruited sold just 1 of
your infoproducts a day. You are on your way to profitability because
you are making over $100 dollars a day or $3,000 dollars a month in affiliate
sales. As you can see, small but leveraged sales from an affiliate team
can begin to add up. For example lets say you pay other site owners a
commission of 50% to refer and pre-sell your info-products to others.
This means you still have $1500 dollars a month gross profit from your
affiliate team, in addition to the sales you make on your house site with
your infoproducts.
If you sell just one infoproduct on your site a day at $27 dollars ($27
X 30 = $810) you will make $810 dollars a month in house from infoproducts.
Now you are selling $135 a day (4 X $27 from affiliates = $108 and $27
from your own efforts =$135), $4050 a month ($135 a day X 30 = $4050)
and $48,600 dollars a year ($4050 X 12 month = $48,500) from you own infoproducts,
with the help of affiliate programs. These examples illustrate small scale
success with affiliate programs. Your infoproducts could really become
quite successful. Now let's turn our further explore expanding our S.E.E.M.E.
traffic with additional referral traffic and income from affiliate programs.
